New Podcast: Man Woman Movie

MWM banner

Recently my wife, Erin, and I started a podcast where we take turns picking movies and no matter what that movie is, we both watch it and review it. It’s called Man Woman Movie and the title is based on a survival show I heard about, Man Woman Wild.  When we began, our baby was 4 months old and the rumors are true- they take a lot of time and care! We decided to start the podcast as a fun way to stay creative and do something together at home. With my web show, The Con Men, on the back burner for now, the podcast helps to let off some of that steam that builds up when you have too many ideas in your head and no way to get them out.

Man Woman Movie is available on iTunes, Google Play (and the services they support) as well as Soundcloud. I hope you’ll check it out. We have a lot of fun doing this and we’re going to offer a wide range of movies.  If you’ve already given us a like on Facebook, thanks! We’d appreciate any positive feedback or rating since it helps our ranking on the various services. If you have any thoughts or film suggestions you can comment here, hit us up on the Facebook or email us at

What movies have we picked so far? The first two episodes are out. Erin chose the first film- From Justin to Kelly. It’s a horror film starring the American Idol people. Ok, it’s not a horror film per se but it should be labeled as such. I struck back in episode 2 by choosing Cobra. Stallone! Boom! Testosterone! Kapow! The podcast is bi-weekly, meaning our next episode (again Erin’s pick) will be released this Monday, August 1. It’s very different than either of the previous films.

Ok, I have to go let the dogs out and prepare a bottle for the kiddo. Thanks for reading this!

The Con Men 8 Coming Up

Here’s a little poster I put together. We’re gonna be at Con Alt Delete next weekend. It’s our second year there and the second year this convention has been in existence. Last year the weather was terrible and the con was in Lisle. This year…well…hopefully there won’t be as much snow and it’s at the Hyatt Rosemont. Should be a party!

The Con Men Turn 1 at Windycon

A couple weeks ago we shot another episode of The Con Men at Windycon 41. It is one of Chicagoland’s oldest sci-fi conventions and the birthplace of our show in 2013. Everyone was really great and supportive and we met a lot of new friends. Chris Hutson and Paul Lyzun (the cinematographer I work with) were on hand and that made everything a lot easier. Here it is!

If you’re interested in the full interview with Lauren Faits (Geek Girl Chicago) you can check that out here. She had a lot of great stuff to say so I had to post the whole thing.

Here’s a 2 minute behind the scenes thrill ride. We’d like to pull back the curtain at every show.

What the heck! Let’s end with a little video that isn’t on our Ten Wing Media pages. It’s me talking about the con and Citizen in the Temple.

What’s next? We look ahead to Con Alt Delete and finishing Citizen in the Temple! Thanks for reading this.

The Con Men ep. 5 – Acen 2014

Just posting this here for anyone who may have missed it at This is our Acen episode of The Con Men, our fandom-focused web series. Lots of cosplayers. Cool interviews. I love working on this show.

Acen. Free Stuff. Happy.

I’ve been plastering all over social media that Beyond the Basement Door won “Best Independent Film or Short” at the awards. I am honored. Three If By Space, The Lovecraft Ezine and the HPL Film Festival facebook page have raised a lot of awareness and generated a lot of traffic for the movie and for that I am super appreciative. We shot BTBD a couple years ago and it had a good run in some festivals and conventions. Time to give it to the world on youtube.

The main location, a house in Central IL, is no longer there. Was it simply removed to make way for a new home or something more…sinister?

Abruptly switching topics, Paul Lyzun’s documentary, Without Charity, is now streaming free too! You should check that out. It’s about a triple homicide that occurred in Indiana. Very hard hitting. I was fortunate to be a producer on this project.

Without Charity (Full Film)

Lastly, let’s talk about The Con Men. We recently launched a facebook page for it. Wanna follow? I dare you. We’re very pleased with the reception we’ve gotten for the first four episodes. We’ll keep on it. Where are we going next? ACEN. Look out!

The grindstone is calling my nose. Gotta get back to it. Thanks for reading this.

The Con Men visit Walker Stalker Con

Hello humans! Ten Wing Media cohort Chad Burns and I recently attended Walker Stalker Con. We shot a new episode of The Con Men, our show about fandom. Walker Stalker was the biggest con we’ve worked so far. We talked to a lot of cool people including an industrial rock star, an artist, some people opening a zombie laser tag business in Aurora, people who organize a zombie street party in Elgin, IL and the Chicago Herpetological Society. I met a giant snake.

We started experimenting with a new direction for the show and we hope you like it. Our goal is to grow The Con Men into a big, strange youtube thing so if you want to help all you have to do is watch.

We started a brand new facebook page for the show. So there’s clicking you could do if you’re so inclined. The next episode will be set in Las Vegas. Who knows what will happen?!

That’s all the info I can spill right now. Be excellent to each other and thanks for reading this.

The Con Men 3

Over the past few months, we’ve been working on a web series called The Con Men. Our goal has been to show the power of fandom and provide some cool convention coverage. So far it’s been going very well. We’ve met a lot of new friends and people really seem to get the idea. We just released the newest episode from Capricon 34 on Wednesday. Already we have 945 views so if you’re reading this and you helped make that happen, thank you. We really appreciate the support. It is also hovering at the top of the SF_videos subreddit so if you like to get your reddit on and want to help us stay there, that would be awesome.

One other thing I wanted to mention. We put together a survey about how you find out about and consume new sci-fi. We’re students of the industry and considering the changing landscape of media distribution, it helps to keep up on the trends. To that end we put together 8 questions to gather data. It’ll take like 1 minute. If you fill it out, I’ll be your best friend. Here is the survey.

That’s all I’ve got for now. I’m keeping busy trying to get Citizen in the Temple finished up and submitting fiction to a few publications. So more to come when it’s fit to print. Thanks for reading!

The Con Men ep. 1 – Windy Con 2013

A recent endeavor that has kept me busy in addition to finishing Citizen in the Temple and writing The Drone novel for the NaNoWriMo is a new web series called The Con Men. The gang at Ten Wing Media attends conventions, we record interviews and present it to you for the low low price of free. The series explores fandom at conventions from the inside along with some personal reflections. Below is our first episode, recorded at Windy Con 40 in Lombard, IL. We’ve got plans to attend a couple more cons in the upcoming months and we’re continuously refining our process. Take a look. I’d love to hear what you think. If you do watch, thanks for it.
