The Con Men ep. 2 – Con Alt Delete

Hello again! On the weekend of 12/14 we filmed a new episode of our fandom web series, The Con Men, at Con Alt Delete. In the Windycon episode, Chad and I did a little confessional bit that tied the segments together. We didn’t do that this time so I thought I’d write my personal thoughts here.

This was my first anime convention. It was also the inaugural year for Con Alt Delete and given that, I was very impressed with the turnout. The weather wasn’t cooperating and yet the Sheraton Lisle was jam packed with happy con goers. On Saturday you could walk through the lobby and meet everyone from Spiderman to Fallout NCR rangers to…O.K. honestly I had no idea who a lot of the characters were. 🙂 I dipped my feet in anime years back with Vampire Hunter D (Bloodlust is my favorite), Fist of the North Star, Guyver, Cowboy Bebop, etc. but I’ve been a little out of the loop when it comes to the modern stuff. I did start watching Attack on Titan. I dig it. At any rate another thing that impressed me was that more people dressed up than didn’t. I’ve never done the whole cosplay thing (assuming Halloween doesn’t count) but I know it takes a lot of time, money and love. It was cool to see what people put together. A lot of ingenuity. For a web series that wants to show the power and dedication of fandom, Con Alt Delete was a great choice.

There is an overwhelming vibe of inclusion that you get at these cons. Everyone was very friendly, accommodating and willing to chat which makes it a fertile field for interviews. I wish we had time to do more. Several people told us they made lasting friendships through cons.  Hopefully that turns out to be a benefit for the guys with the camera too. Ok, I’ve rambled enough. Want to see the episode?

A final thought. If you like what you see, it would be awesome if you’d subscribe to our mailing list on the front page of We don’t spam and it helps to inform us about the type of content you’d like to see. Ultimately, it helps us stay connected and that’s what this is all about. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading!  -Jason
